Creamy Avocado Sauce

Avocado sauce is a staple in our house. It’s easy to whip together and uses fresh, whole ingredients. It’s naturally gluten-free, nut-free and can be made dairy-free.
My youngest girl doesn’t like the texture of sliced avocados but she loves dips and sauces. She has come to really enjoy this delicious creamy sauce!
What is Creamy Avocado Sauce?
This recipe is inspired by avocado crema. Our recipe uses avocados and yogurt as an alternative to traditional Mexican crema, which is made with buttermilk and heavy cream. The avocados add brightness, color and flavor.
Making this sauce at home allows us to enjoy the flavors of Mexican style restaurant cuisine
We manage multiple food allergies at home. We love the flavors of restaurant style Mexican cuisine and avocado crema however, it can be challenging to eat out with multiple food allergies. So, we like to make this adapted style sauce at home which reminds us of the flavors of avocado crema.

Making this sauce at home allows my daughter to experience the flavors of Mexican cuisine that she may not otherwise get to try in a restaurant due to her allergies.

Can I make Creamy Avocado Sauce dairy-free?
Yes! This recipe uses only a few tablespoons of yogurt. You can use any plant based yogurt or leave the yogurt out to make a dairy-free version. See notes below.

What do you serve with this creamy sauce?
We love to serve avocado sauce on top of quesadillas, tacos or fritters. In addition, it tastes great on sweet potato cakes and makes a nice side with Mexican Rice . Our family loves to use it as a dip on a platter with veggies and chips.

Description
Creamy Avocado Sauce is inspired from Avocado Crema. Free from: tree nuts, peanut, sesame, gluten and can be made dairy-free.
Best served day of. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for about 1 day
Ingredients

2 medium size avocados, roughly chopped

juice of 1 lime or lemon

1 small garlic clove, crushed

1/2 cup cilantro tops ( parsley or a combination of parsley & cilantro is fine)

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/3 cup olive oil

2 tablespoon full fat yogurt or plant based yogurt of choice

1 tablespoon water
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
- pinch of pepper
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients into a mini-food processor until smooth and creamy, for at least 30 seconds.
- Serve with fritters, tacos, burgers, fish, as a dip with veggies and chips or eat by the spoonful.
- Adjust to taste with more lemon juice and salt.
Notes
- To make dairy free; omit yogurt and add water. Start with 1 tablespoon or add enough to desired consistency. Or use your favorite plant based yogurt as an alternative.
- For a spicy version, add 1-2 jalapeño pepper(s), chopped( de-seeded for less spicy) with above ingredients and blend.
